Server rebuild complete
Well now that you're seeing this post it means that my server rebuild is complete. I wiped away three years of cruft and clutter and now up and running with a fresh install. People should notice some performance improvements, but the real advantage to me is that the system is again organized and clutter-free.
If anyone is curious, I'm running Ubuntu server Fiesty Fawn, with the default LAMP stack enabled. The install went flawlessly. The last time I rebuilt a server, it turned into a 12 hour pain-in-the-arse-fest. This time, I was up and running from top to bottom in about 4 hours. Drupal runs on it almost out of the box (for those that are considering, you have to enable mod_rewrite using:
sudo a2enmod rewrite
